Megatron vs Mighty Mouse

This year we have a battle for top wide receiver in the league between Calvin Johnson and Wes Welker. These two have been on a tear and have great quarterbacks throwing to them. What's unique about this battle is that both individuals play the game differently and are physically built differently. Calvin Johnson is 6'5" and can leap over defenders to make spectacular catches and runs his routes to a crisp, while Wes Welker stands at about 5'10" is by far the best route runner in the league and has a resolve that is unmatched this season. Calvin Johnson is on pace to beat Randy Moss record 23 touchdowns in a season and Wes Welker has an opportunity to beat Jerry Rice for the most receiving yards in the season currently on pace to reach over 2,000+ yards.
While both players are great for fantasy and real life, I find myself being more impressed with Megatron. They are putting their best 2-3 players on him and are not able to stop him from scoring. I don't believe there will be an answer to stopping the machine. The only thing that has really stopped or slowed Megatron was injuries and ineffective quarterbacks. Which means if Johnson and Matt Stafford stay healthy the entire season they may be the greatest scoring QB and WR in NFL history. Just watching the highlight reels the other day I couldn't help but be in amaze and awe at the play that Johnson has made thus far and cannot wait to see what he does to other teams. If you drafted Johnson in your fantasy leagues you may win a championship thanks to him.
Just because I am more impressed with Megatron doesn't mean I don't think Mighty Mouse is a slouch. Wes Welker has always been a favorite of Tom Brady. Tom Brady is an elite QB and has been for a long time and it definitely helps Welker's chances. This is why I am least amazed by Welker. It's kind of a 'this is what they are supposed to do' moment. Tom Brady is a shooter. He is going to throw the ball and be accurate and you are going to get you yardage and that's the system. With Detroit it was supposed to happen or at least not this season. Though with Welker's injuries beside him and Tom Brady mechanically back at his peak, I can see Welker beating the receiving yards record. He has had 4 100+ yard games through Week 5 averaging 148 yards per game. There are still 11 games to play and he needs 1100 more yards give or take to claim that feat. The thing that makes it all possible is that teams do not know how to stop Welker either. There is a matchup problem against any defensive scheme. Since Welker is versatile and has the hardest work ethic in the league, much like Jerry Rice had when he played, I feel Welker will be the best WR in term of targets, catches, and yardage this season and maybe in history.
Whether you believe in Megatron or Mighty Mouse on thing is for sure, it's going to be one heck of a time watching them the rest of this season.
