A long time ago I had this job painting. The main boss was very inefficient and gave his employees no direction. I really hated working for him and needless to say I never really gave him my best work. When he left the company a guy named George took the lead position and he was a great guy. Everyone respond well to him and we all knew that George knew what he was talking about and had great leadership skills. While he wasn't the best technical painter he made everyone want to work harder and do their best. What does Tebow and George have in common?
Leadership! Leadership is an important quality that a quarterback needs in order to be effective at their jobs. Aaron Rodgers is the best example of a leader in the NFL. While I'm not saying Tebow is of caliber as Rodgers; I am saying that Tebow leadership presence can match that of Aaron Rodgers. The analysts during the off-season spoke about Tebow's mechanics week in and week out, I am a believer that he will improve upon those flaws. One does not make it to the NFL by being mediocre. Look at JaMarcus Russell and his god given talents; he was not able to effectively lead his team because of his poor work ethics and carelessness of his teammates. Tim Tebow has the opposite effective and I would argue is the extreme opposite of JaMarcus. When Tebow took the field against the Chargers, the Broncos looked to have new life and a resilient energy. The players looked hungry and ready to go to battle for him and kept on going and almost pulled a come from behind victory.
Leadership is what organizations love to build around. Look at the greatest players throughout history. Most of the were very talented, but they also worked hard, had a passion for winning, and had some level of leadership. The greatest example is that of Peyton Manning. With him gone so far this season, it's like the head of the organization has been ripped out and they look plain and defeated. Tebow is the head of the offense and the head of the team and if he can continue to motivate, grow, and win then all of the doubters will eventually become believers. Eight weeks ago the analysts and sports writers started spreading columns about a certain rookie QB that was predicted to struggle and transition into the NFL slowly. Now that rookie QB is one of the top quarterbacks in the league. Cam Newton definitely turn the doubters into believers and the Panthers have been playing with a different mentality. Even Steve Smith who was dying to leave the Panthers organization is wanting to stay and play with Newton.
The best thing going for Tebow right now is that he has one of the greatest QB's of all-time in his side in John Elway to guide him through the mechanics and growing pains. History has show us that when talented back ups were given an opportunity to learn from a living legend they have had a better chance at a successful career. Look at examples of Steve Young behind Joe Montana, Tom Brady and Drew Bledsoe, Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre, and many more. This situation is a win for the Broncos organization. At worst Tebow struggles but increases ticket sales and merchandise sales for the rest of the season and at best Tebow digs a slumping organization out of the grave. The one thing we must do is that we need to realize that Rome was built in a day and Tebow may not be great overnight, but as the days continue to roll and as each practice passes, Tebow will get that much better and he will lead the Broncos to prominence yet again. This is truly a good time to be a Broncos fan!
